At least 16 people are known to have died in Europe after contracting Ecoli, most likely from cucumbers. Yes, cucumbers. The ones in question were grown in Spain. While there have been no reported cases in the U.S., authorities are still tracing the trail of the produce.
I cannot think of a better reason for us all to head out to our backyards and start turning over a little soil. You would be amazed how much fresh produce you could get out of such a small area. A tomato plant, a pepper plant, some cucumbers, carrots, parsley, lettuce can all be easily grown in your backyard. All without the threat of Ecoli or other horrible diseases.
Afterall, you can't get any fresher vegetables than those grown in your own backyard.
